Getting started

Acknowledging that you want help is a hard but important first step.
You’re bound to have a range of thoughts, feelings and questions about counselling.
Here is what to expect in the beginning.

Choosing a therapist

It's important to find a therapist that you feel comfortable with

I offer initial appointments where we can meet and discuss what working together would be like – helping you make an informed choice.

Initial meeting

Initial meetings normally last for 50 minutes. In this time, we will explore your reasons for seeking help, what you hope to gain and how counselling might help. Occasionally, I may suggest we meet again before agreeing next steps.

At the end of the consultation I will discuss with you whether psychodynamic counselling and therapy is likely to be the most helpful treatment or if there is a more suitable alternative I can recommend.

Fees

The fee for the initial consultation is £75.

Fees for ongoing treatment are discussed at the initial consultation. I reserve a limited number of places for those on low incomes.
